more of our finland adventures

welcome to finland! we are leaving for our 2 hour drive back to tampere airport and then flying back to england. here's a short photo journal of the trip, i may or may not add more pictures later if i come across some good pictures. i'm definitely sad to leave, it has been an awesome week and i got to make a lot of new cool friends! got to go for now, photo captions to come soon, so keep checking backkk.

**updated below**

here is a picture of me on our first day in finland, outside the big lutheran cathedral. it was snowy and COLD!

this is the big lutheran cathedal in turku. the cathedral was originally catholic but was changed over to a lutheran church as that became the dominant denomination of the country. i believe this church was constructed in the 12th century.
here's our team and some people from calvary chapel turku hanging out inside the cathedral. the church did not meet in the cathedral, they were renting a classroom to use for service several miles away.
this is the door to the apartment the guys were staying in. and there's an introduction to some finnish and swedish phrases, requesting no flyers be dropped in the door slot. :)
our crew hanging out in kyle's [the church's intern] bedroom.
the view outside kyle's window of the nice blue skies over turku.
this is the harbor in helsinki, the ocean you are looking at is a part of the baltic sea. apparently the water is very polluted and it's not a very good idea to eat too much fish out of this sea.
this is a frozen lake we walked across in helsinki. pretty exciting walking across a big frozen body of water in the middle of spring!
sunset over the baltic sea. we hung out for a day at this guy's house outside the city, made a campfire, grilled some finnish sausage, and enjoyed our first finnish sauna cultural experience! look up finnish sauna on wikipedia if you want to know what im talking about. :)
this is a finnish specialty pastry. i can't remember what it is called off the top of my head, but it kinda tasted like a cinnamon roll.
cafe art. REALLY good espresso and cakes. REALLY expensive. i think i spent about 7 euros on both those items. [about $10!!]
that's all for now, i should have a little video slideshow put together in the next few days with a lot more excitement and adventure from our trip!

friday in finland

good morning or goodnight everyone!

its friday morning in finland right now. i havent had much access to internet [or time to access internet for that matter] so i have been sorta out of touch with the rest of the world.

anyways, finland has been a huge blessing, i'm not ready to leave!! been having a lot of fun serving here and getting to know the church body. today we are having an outreach at the swedish-speaking university and have a few other things planned still before we leave on sunday night.

i had the privilege [and challenge!] of speaking at the wednesday night bible study here in turku, if you are interested log on to the itunes store and search for calvary chapel finland - wednesday night. my message is in their podcasts, titled ephesians 6:10-24. i'm embarrased to have a whole bunch of people listen to me talk on the internet, but maybe God can bless you with it :)

anyways, time to make a pot of finnish-specialty coffee and get ready for the day.

ps. when i have some free time and energy i will have tons and tons of pictures to share hopefully.

and we're off

im on a train right now on our way to stansted airport. we will be flying out of stansted into turku finland later on this afternoon. i hope everyone is sleeping good!

i have a feeling this will be an exciting trip, already we walked on to the train and there were absolutely no seats left so we were stuck standing in the middle of the aisle with bags stacked all around, our butts right in the faces of everyone sitting down. i started cracking up because i knew our train ride was going to take about 3 hours, just imagine standing up in the middle of an aisle with people's faces 4 inches from you for three hours straight. hahaha we finally got some seats though after a few people climbed off after we made the first stop. :)

tonight we wandered out to Leeds to the see The Chariot play a show. see below for a photo documentary of the night, which included an attempted shopping trip [all the stores were closed], a trip to posh-McDonalds, and dancing around with some sweaty, stinky guys. i have a video which will be uploaded sometime soon but i really need to get to bed. :)

shoyu chicken

today i ventured to make shoyu chicken. without a rice cooker, and with ingredients that had the same name [but may be totally different things here]. my rice turned out great, and the soy sauce i bought turned out to be really sweet and different from typical soy sauce...

when i was finally done i thought i had done a pretty decent job considering the circumstances :)

the song is fake plastic trees by radiohead, i figured it would be appropriate since i'm in england after all.
