home again

hi everyone,

in case you aren't aware, i am officially back in hawaii. i just started putting together a video that will summarize all the fun and exciting adventures of the semester, hopefully that won't take me too long to finish, but no promises!

it feels really nice to be home again in hawaii, but i really miss all the good friends i made while away in england. come visit me in hawaii everyone!

i am on currently on maui, should be going to oahu within the next week or so to start working for the summer and after that comes graduate school at the University of Hawaii.

i'll leave you with a couple pictures from my last night in york and the bible college's graduation ceremony [which explains why i am dressed differently than normal].

that's all for now.

i got back from london at about 1am and took my first final this morning. i just uploaded all my pictures from london but haven't had the time to really sort through them and decide what to post and write about from my time there.

instead, i realized that i had collected a decent amount of pictures of really exciting bridges from around england, and decided i will make a post for the structural engineer and architect in us all!

so here we go!

Millennium Bridge, London (over the Thames River, connects to Tate Modern):

Millennium Bridge, York:

Whitby Harbor Pier (not exactly a bridge but still exciting):

whitby and robin hood's bay

i just realized i haven't been on here to update in awhile. i've been so busy trying to catch up on my papers that i really haven't had anything exciting to say.

yesterday the bible college took the day off to drive out to the north-east coast of england, to a place called robin hood's bay. from the bay we went on a 7-mile walk to the harbor town of whitby, with sea cliffs on our right and sheep fields on the left. this took a few hours and then we cruised around whitby, got some coffee, and went to a place called magpie cafe for supposedly some of the best fish and chips around. they were still just fish and chips. :)

i loved whitby, probably one of the prettiest places i have ever seen. i don't think i could live very long in an inland place like york, i love the ocean too much.

heres some fun pictures from my exploring:

(more to come after my coffee shop shift)

manchester

im in manchester, riding bikes all weekend!  yesterday was a big alley cat race, where you basically get a list of checkpoints you need to ride to and get your paper signed then you ride to the next checkpoint.  this morning im hanging out at calvary chapel stockport and going to a men's breakfast thing and then riding back over to the bike activities around noon.  yesterday i managed to plow down a girl on her bike [who was not involved in the race] because she has at an intersection waiting to cross, looked at me coming down the street towards her, and then continued to roll right out in the middle of the street.  then she just froze like a deer in the headlights and we got all tangled up.  somehow her pedal ended up wedged in my spokes so now my front wheel is all tweaked and i need to get it trued before i keep riding all day...

cycle the solar system!!

at church on sunday night i was talking to a guy i happened to sit next to and he told me about this bike trail i needed to check out. yesterday i finally made enough time [and the weather was warm and sunny] to explore the trail. its basically a 6-7 mile trail [10km], along which all the planets of the solar system and located, spaced and sized proportionally to the sun that is located at the beginning of the trail. i rode from the bible college to the sun, all the way out to pluto and back to the sun and finally home for a total of about 15 miles. what a fun day! here's the pictures of my adventures in outer space:

farndale day trip!

the entire bible college took the day off from classes yesterday and took a coach to farndale to hike around the valley and play in the daffodils. it was beautiful, warm [for england] day. heres some pictures from our hiking adventure. me, rob, macy, and kyle conquered the valley.

i also found a field of sheep and started running around chasing the sheep and got yelled at and rebuked by a whole group of old english people. i could only tell them that we dont have sheep where i come from. they werent too happy with my excitement over the sheep though. :)

more of our finland adventures

welcome to finland! we are leaving for our 2 hour drive back to tampere airport and then flying back to england. here's a short photo journal of the trip, i may or may not add more pictures later if i come across some good pictures. i'm definitely sad to leave, it has been an awesome week and i got to make a lot of new cool friends! got to go for now, photo captions to come soon, so keep checking backkk.

**updated below**

here is a picture of me on our first day in finland, outside the big lutheran cathedral. it was snowy and COLD!

this is the big lutheran cathedal in turku. the cathedral was originally catholic but was changed over to a lutheran church as that became the dominant denomination of the country. i believe this church was constructed in the 12th century.
here's our team and some people from calvary chapel turku hanging out inside the cathedral. the church did not meet in the cathedral, they were renting a classroom to use for service several miles away.
this is the door to the apartment the guys were staying in. and there's an introduction to some finnish and swedish phrases, requesting no flyers be dropped in the door slot. :)
our crew hanging out in kyle's [the church's intern] bedroom.
the view outside kyle's window of the nice blue skies over turku.
this is the harbor in helsinki, the ocean you are looking at is a part of the baltic sea. apparently the water is very polluted and it's not a very good idea to eat too much fish out of this sea.
this is a frozen lake we walked across in helsinki. pretty exciting walking across a big frozen body of water in the middle of spring!
sunset over the baltic sea. we hung out for a day at this guy's house outside the city, made a campfire, grilled some finnish sausage, and enjoyed our first finnish sauna cultural experience! look up finnish sauna on wikipedia if you want to know what im talking about. :)
this is a finnish specialty pastry. i can't remember what it is called off the top of my head, but it kinda tasted like a cinnamon roll.
cafe art. REALLY good espresso and cakes. REALLY expensive. i think i spent about 7 euros on both those items. [about $10!!]
that's all for now, i should have a little video slideshow put together in the next few days with a lot more excitement and adventure from our trip!
